VIDEO – He defines himself as a creator of narrative universes, his universe ranges from theater decor to design

Following in the footsteps of Éric Chapuis is entering history. He defines himself as a creator of narrative universes:

« My goal is to make my clients’ ideas or dreams come true. To do this, I build a narrative to add a little sacredness to these projects, in the fields of art, culture or heritage. «

A journey through time through comics

Currently, Éric is working on a comic strip project about Luxembourg: “ I was hired by an agency to look into the history of Luxembourg. I travel through the Middle Ages, to the 18th century, to the beginning of the steel industry. »

For this comic, Éric Chapuis compares his work with that of a copyist monk. He also does a lot of research and collaborates with historians: “My job is to check how people dressed back then. And since we are in a warlike era. I also study the types of weapons, coats of arms, and people’s travel times. For this, I work with a lot of cards“.

Reinventing space: the art of interior design

Éric also reinvented the interior design of a café, after analyzing the missing spaces: “ Here, we are in a large space which can be a little scary. The goal of the game is to break the perspective to make the place a little more cozy. I created chimeras, sort of sculptures made with theater set techniques. They are shaped with polystyrene, different coatings, and paint », explains the artist.

Franck Ansalone is the manager of the café: “ There are people who will remain completely stunned and amazed. And those who look in every corner of the bar. »

From storyboard to big screen: a new adventure in perspective

The other universe of Éric Chapuis is also scenography. Several directors called on him to imagine a setting, to represent landscapes: “I needed a new eye to imagine a setting, a universe around a character who moves with the text,” explains Godefroy Gordet, author and director: “Eric first started making sketches, drawing, imagining things. And by storyboarding a little, the scenography came. »

Eric is getting ready to put on a new costume. That of production designer for a short film which will be presented at the Film Festival next year.
