Theater and its role as a school of life

This text is published in the Youth page, composed of articles written by young people from the region on themes that they choose freely.
But what choices are available to young Jura residents wanting to pursue their passion?
Hanae Mathieu and Basma El-Alamy, 18, both grew up on the stage, then furthered that interest by joining the Sports-Arts-Studies program in high school. But when leaving compulsory school, a question arises for the two Delémontaines: how to continue to evolve in the theater?
To this, the Jura women will have very different answers. For Hanae, it’s obvious, she wants to continue her studies at high school and decides on the specific theater option offered by the school. Basma, who is embarking on an apprenticeship as a librarian, is not lucky enough to see theater courses offered in her training. Determined to continue, she joined the youth troupe of the Théâtre du Jura. A golden opportunity for her and all other young theater lovers.
Multiple possibilities
It has now been three years since Hanae chose the specific theater option and she does not regret it: “We are taught to express ourselves, to open up to others while developing our creativity and our general culture”, underlines the high school student. She adds that it is a course that allows you to move and learn to manage your body, but also group work: “We create special friendships and concrete skills.”
She points out that you don’t need to have any experience to get started. “Some students have never done theater, we all learn and it can be a great challenge to get out of your comfort zone,” she assures.
