Chris Evans: This movie is like an early Christmas present

He wants to forget Captain America. Chris Evans is determined to turn the page on Marvel films. The 43-year-old American teams up with Dwayne Johnson, aka The Rock, in “Red One”, currently in theaters, which wants to revive the great tradition of Christmas films.

Your film mixes action and comedy. How to summarize “Red One”?

Dwayne Johnson plays Callum Drift, nicknamed Red, Santa’s secret service boss. When the latter disappears just before his annual tour, he decides to call on my character, Jack O’Malley, who is the best tracker in the world, that is to say a person whose job is to find missing people. Jack has lost his Christmas spirit and is kidnapped and taken by force to the North Pole where, to his greatest surprise, he finds himself in the world of Santa Claus.

How did you build your bond with Dwayne Johnson?

It was simple because Dwayne is welcoming, open and always ready to help his partners during a shoot. We had all the more fun since our characters are supposed to hate each other at the beginning of the plot. We’re both used to action scenes and stunts, so that was really fun to do together. The hardest part was managing to stay serious so as not to burst out laughing and have to redo a scene ten times.

Was it nice to find yourself back in huge action scenes several years after leaving the Marvel saga of “Avengers” and “Captain America”?

It was great, because I had to pretend not to know how to fight or defend myself against the characters who attacked me.

“Red One” was originally produced for the Amazon Prime platform. Its first test screenings were so good that it arrives this Wednesday in cinemas, including Imax. What was your reaction to this news?

It’s like an early Christmas present for me, because I absolutely wasn’t expecting it, but what good news! I’m so happy that our film will be available on the big screen first, because I hope “Red One” will help bring back the annual Christmas movie tradition where the whole family can go to the movies together to have a good time. moment.

What are your memories of your childhood Christmases?

I come from a family of four children. On New Year’s Eve, we decided as a family which Christmas movie to watch on our old which was connected to a video cassette player. I have only fond memories of those Christmases from my childhood, as I am very close to my brother Scott and my two sisters, Carly and Shanna, since we are only a few years apart between the four of us. And we remain very close today, even if the four of us no longer sleep in the same room like when we were young (laughing). We only did this on Christmas Eve to make sure we all woke up together and ran to discover our presents.
