These are the first images from the film shot last winter in Haut-Jura. And they are quite tempting. The trailer for “A Bear in the Jura”, the new film by Franc Dubosc, was unveiled this Tuesday, November 5, 2024.
We recognize the decor perfectly. Above all, we discover the impressive cast. Because if Franck Dubosc and Laure Calamy play the main roles, the cast is also taken par Benoît Poelvoorde, Joséphine de Meaux and Kim Higelin.
Initially, the screenplay, co-written by Franck Dubosc and Sarah Kaminsky, is not that of a comedy. Cathy (Laure Calamy) and Michel (Franck Dubosc), a couple worn down by time and financial difficulties, live on an isolated farm, in the middle of the Jura forest. In debt, the couple eke out a living thanks to the sale of Christmas trees and no longer exchange much. Until the day when Michel, to avoid a bear on the road, crashes into a car and kills the two occupants. Two deaths and two million euros in used notes in the safe, there’s plenty to talk about again. Or above all to keep quiet. They decide to cover up the accident.
Will they escape the clutches of justice and the policeman played by Benoît Poelvoorde? That’s the whole question. “What were you doing on the night of the 21st?”asks Benoît Poelvoorde at the very end of the trailer. “We were at Cupid”replies Laure Calamy. “The swingers club?” the soldier is surprised. “Thursday is bang bang night”retorts the actress. “Gang bang”corrects Franck Dubosc. The tone is set.
“I wanted to change genres a little, explained Franck Dubosc to France 3 Franche-Comté last March, between two takes. To be in a genre with always comedy, but a little darker, more in the humor of the Coen brothers, like Fargo… All these films where we laugh, but on a first level, with very anchored in reality. I didn’t want a funny comedy, but a serious comedy, a serious comic.”
After several months of discreet scouting to find the farm, the film team, who had planted their cameras for several weeks in the Jura, called on numerous local extras. Franck Dubosc even looked for an understudy on site. But the filming sparked a bit of controversy with special effects that were little appreciated by nature lovers and environmental defense associations. Without snow, production actually resorted to a little artificial “sprinkling” on rocks and on the ground. A local company had to intervene in particular to clean the banks of the Billaude waterfall.
“A Bear in the Jura” will be released in theaters on January 1, 2025. This is the third film directed by the actor. The first, “Everyone up”, was a real popular success in 2018 and attracted nearly 2.4 million spectators. “Rumba life”the second only brought together 290,000 curious people.
