A place that has had many lives

The building which has housed the current music room since 1996 has a rich history and has had several lives.

This is what the contemporary music hall Le Normandy, in Saint-Lô, could look like after its work planned for 2026. ©Still happy.

Built in 1810, under the orders of Napoleon, it housed the horse riding school of the first stud farm of Saint-Lô, at the time when it was installed near the old Sainte- abbey. The building is one of the few remaining intact in a city almost completely destroyed in June 1944.

Museum, then cinema

After the war, the survivor became a museum dedicated to the Landing and the bombings of Saint-Lô. Then, in 1948 a cinema, until 1980.

Renovation in 1999

Having become a concert venue, the hall was renovated in 1999, passing from 700 to 900 places. Saint-Lô becomes the only French town of less than 20,000 inhabitants to have such a large place dedicated to current music.

Local pride.
