Departure of Becky Lynch: A question of money?

Becky Lynch’s contract with WWE ended on June 1, 2024, and the reasons for her departure are causing a lot of speculation.

According to the latest rumors, the former champion would simply like to take a break. However, Jonathan Coachman, former member of the WWE, speculated on the causes of this departure, saying that Becky Lynch would have asked for “more than two million dollars a year”, an amount that the WWE would have refused. Still according to Coachman, if the wrestling company had accepted, “she would still be on the show.”

The full quote from Jonathan Coachman:

“Roman [Reigns] touches in the 15-20 million range. Then we have Cody Rhodes who would earn between 10 and 15 million. Then Seth [Rollins]Becky Lynch’s spouse, is probably in the 3 to 7 million range. Apparently, she (Becky Lynch, editor’s note) asked for more than 2 million per year. […] They did not accept. […] If they had paid her, she would be on the show. They desperately need women right now.”

According to Fightful, this is a quote filled with false information. The American site contacted several sources close to the matter, who denied these rumors. Becky Lynch and WWE are reportedly still on good terms, and the wrestling company is said to have respected Lynch’s decision to take a break. Several people within WWE say that if Becky Lynch had wanted to sign a contract before her departure, a deal certainly would have been made.

The amount of $2 million would be incorrect. Becky Lynch never asked for this amount and WWE would have agreed without hesitation if it had. Fightful specifies that the current salaries of the biggest talents in WWE and AEW are much higher, and that Becky Lynch’s contract would easily exceed 2 million per year.

Fightful concludes by asserting that only the slice mentioned for Seth Rollins in Jonathan Coachman’s quote would be correct.
