budding filmmakers in the spotlight at the Terre(s) d’images festival

In the Sepmes village hall, plunged into almost total darkness, a handful of children are learning patience and attention to detail. Friday 1is November 2024 is the last of their five days of training, which should allow them to produce a short film broadcast on Sunday November 25, at Louroux, on the occasion of the Terre(s) d’images festival.

Patience and attention to detail because the short film they are making is a two-minute animated film, shot frame by frame. “The oldest animated image technique”agrees Yannick Fréjoux, founder of La 25e image, which runs workshops for children. Between each shot, the elements move in micro-movements and it is the sequence of shots that gives an animated image. “We teach them to work on perspectives, to be precise, meticulous. We also see the decomposition of movements”adds the host, assisted by Aurélien, a final year student in cinema in Chinon and who is planning to study audiovisual.

“Bringing cultural actions to South Lochois”

At the start of the week, the small group, from the intercommunal educational group Sepmes, Draché, Esves-le-Moutier and the Ligueil college, started with a blank sheet of paper. Their inspiration comes from the news of the week: Halloween. “Together, we did the writing, the script and the storyboard. They created the settings, the characters”explains the host. The materials are recycled, donated by volunteers from the Terre(s) d’images association. They also recorded the sounds themselves which will be superimposed in the edit.

On the other hand, they will only see the finished result on the day of the screening to keep a little surprise and also because it is a long and tedious step. For Francis Lère, the president of the association, it is a source of pride to offer this workshop, which he has wanted to organize for several years: “The principle of the festival is to bring cultural activities to South Lochois, through cinema. With short films, we highlight local filmmakers. »

A traveling festival

Their production will be screened as the curtain rises, before that of the film Wonkaby Paul King, and with that of high school cinema students from the Planiol high school in Loches. “The idea is to do several parts, with an exhibition by a local artist, a short film and a feature film”adds Francis Lere. A traveling festival, in four communes, in Paulmy, Sepmes, Manthelan and Le Louroux this year, with four themes: land of humor, land of knowledge, land of discovery and land of families. And the municipalities change every year. “This allows us to create an event with the different municipalities. » By completely transforming the premises to recreate a cinema room and fully immerse yourself in the atmosphere.
