Repatriation to England
The prosecutor’s office yesterday gave permission to hand over the artist’s body to his father, Geoff Payne. The latter has been in Argentina since October 18, two days after the death of his son.
He will be able to return “by Monday at the latest” with the singer’s body in England, and organize his funeral. This repatriation depended on the findings of the court. The investigation continues in Buenos Aires.
Died at 31
Liam Payne was, along with Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik and Harry Styles, one of the members of the boy band formed in 2010 and which enjoyed dazzling success.
According to emergency chief Alberto Crescenti, Liam Payne presented “very serious injuries following his fall”. “We noted the death, there was no possibility of resuscitation”he declared on local television.
He said emergency services were called at 5:04 p.m. local time (8:04 p.m. GMT) and that a medical team arrived seven minutes later but was only able to “notice the death of this man” before discovering “later he was a singer in a band”. An investigation into the causes of death has been opened.
The British Foreign Office has confirmed that it is in contact with the Argentine authorities to “the death of a Briton”. A ministry spokesperson, however, declined to comment on the matter.
