A piano, the Phoenix, is the central character of a musical show where a first authoritarian pianist, a second mischievous and a third quirky, compete for the precious instrument to impose their style, revisiting Rossini, Chopin, Grieg, Liszt, Beethoven or Mozart with humor.
While reverent towards their Music, the three musicians desecrate the ceremonial aspect of the classical concert to better pay homage to it. Valérie Guérin-Descouturelle, Véronique Durville and Lucie Chouvel ruffle the stage at Studio Hébertot, in Paris, with The Phoenix of these ladies until January 26, 2025.
Thirty fingers are not too many to instill the energy that emanates from this multifaceted show. Because if the three concert artists are virtuosos and play with their art to better divert it, they are also actresses. Competition, dispute and friendship in their collective art fuel this iconoclastic recital.
Electric piano, this Phoenix has a sound surprisingly faithful to its acoustic model. So in a moment of staging, the three pianists add the tail of a classical piano, as if to ennoble it, even if this addition is not the most orthodox… The three accomplices, also by turns rivals and competitors, twirl around the instrument, compete for the keyboard or combine harmoniously in the execution of standards from the repertoire.
Their performance does not lack panache in a joyous mess which evokes improvisation, but which one senses is meticulously prepared. Valérie Guérin-Descouturelle is unanimously First Prize in piano and chamber music in the city of Paris. Lucie Chouvel, after passing through the Conservatoires of Orléans and that of Boulogne Billancourt, was rewarded with first prizes, and then joined the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris. Véronique Durville, for her part, graduated from the CRR of Versailles (first prize in piano and chamber music) as well as from the Ecole Normale de Musique in Paris. She began her career as a performer within a contemporary music ensemble participating in numerous festivals in France and abroad.
It's their first show as a trio and the sauce is definitely going well. The three actresses perform and share their passion and talent without restraint, while interacting with the audience naturally. The current is passing, both for accomplished music lovers and the less erudite, with the desire to raise awareness of an art often considered elitist.
