Disappearance of Odette Chemla, Tunisian Jewish social media phenomenon

Odette Chemla, a true social media phenomenon, died at the beginning of the week and was buried on October 22.

If her touching humor and comforting recipes, classics of Sephardic cuisine, have made “Mémé Odette” a success, it is the kindness of her some 61,000 subscribers on Instagram that impresses the most.

Under his publications, no anti-Semitic insults, no accusations of cultural appropriation or references to the war in the Middle East. In July, she told I24 about her wonderful childhood in Tunisia: “I want to transmit the positive, life is full of obstacles, but life is very beautiful, we take the good and we push the bad. »

On her networks, her granddaughter Brook, at the origin of the videos, posted this last message of thanks to all those who followed her grandmother’s adventures: “I would like to thank you for your support, your prayers and all the love you have given to Mémé Odette all these years. Know that she read all your messages and cried tears of joy every time. Thank you all for showering her with love from all over the world. »
