Belgian actor Peter Gorissen dies

Peter Gorissen has died at the age of 69.

Flemish actor and director Peter Gorissen has died at the age of 69. It was his colleague Gene Bervoets who announced it on Instagram and the news was also confirmed to VRT. During his long career, Peter Gorissen has played numerous roles in theater productions, films and television series.

Peter Gorissen obtained his acting diploma at Studio Herman Teirlinck in Antwerp. He taught at the Studio, as well as at the Antwerp Conservatory and in the Netherlands. Several generations of actors from Flanders and the Netherlands have taken his lessons at one time or another.

Gorissen has performed in numerous theater productions. He has also directed several stage productions, including “Charkawa” and “Oidipoes”. Gorissen also starred in several feature films, including “Man of Steel”, “L’enfer de Tangier” and “Dossier K”.

In the 1990s and 2000s, Gorissen played guest roles in several television series. He notably appeared in the VRT series “Heterdaad”, “Recht op recht”, “De smaak van De Keyser” and “Witse”, as well as in the VTM series “Code 37” and “Zone stad”. In the late 1990s he also co-directed the Dutch television series “Fort Alpha”.

Gorissen played one of his most notable television roles in the first season of the VRT series “De twaalf”. He plays Arnold Briers, a lonely man who tries to find his place in the group of jurors in an assize case. Gorissen also starred in the VRT/Netflix production ‘Rough diamonds’ and had guest roles in ‘1985’ and ‘Under fire’.
