“Motchus the laive” rocked the Opera

Some 150 people took part this Saturday, October 19 afternoon in the first “laïve” Motchus organized in in the foyer of the opera. Hosted by the sociolinguist Médéric Gasquet-Cyrus and by his sidekick Blaah who concocted the rules of this interactive game, the event allowed lovers of Marseille to take the test in pairs while trying to be the fastest to find a word starting from its initial.

Among the participants, the mayor of Marseille Benoît Payan (DVG) came with his counterpart from Saint-Denis, great lover of Marseille, Mathieu Hanotin, but also the deputy in charge of culture Jean-Marc Coppola (PCF), the deputy in charge of heritage development Perrine Prigent (PM) or the municipal councilor responsible for Provençal heritage Christian Bosq (PM).

You make us proud, you bring our culture, our heritage to life, aioli!“, congratulated the mayor by introducing the meeting registered in the Pagnol year. At the end of two hours of play in a family and offbeat atmosphere like “Burger quiz”, it is the formidable Breton of origin Christophe, in pair with his son Yann, 10 years old, in the “les Garis de Gréoux” team which finished on the podium.

Modeled on the game “Motus”, the show formerly presented by Thierry Beccaro on 2, “Motchus” (which takes up the affrication of “Martchigues” and “La Valentchine”) saw the light of day in January 2022, driven by Médéric Gasquet-Cyrus and Denis Beaubiat, maths teacher at Diderot high school (13th).

Every day, a Marseille word must be guessed online on motchus.fr, its definition being given the next day on the site. A first “laive” was organized last May in the town of Venelles, the one on Saturday in Marseille was a great success which will lead to others.
