James O’Hare, an American of Irish origins, was passing through London for work when he met Delphine for the first time. “It wasn’t love at first sight”admits the one we usually nickname Jim. “It was a wonderful feeling, as if I had known her forever”. After this meeting, there will be many others and for more than a year they will continue to see each other amicably. Delphine, chased by the paparazzi, goes to Washington to clear her head with her friend and sleeps five days in a row, exhausted by this whirlwind in which she is carried away. After this American escapade which put her back on her feet, there will be other trips to Washington. And when James finally surprises her by shaving his beard… Delphine will be speechless. She then realized that there were feelings. Their two children will be born in 2003 and 2008.

In 2013, Delphine and Jim moved to Belgium with their children. Delphine begins paternity recognition procedures, a long battle in court which will last 7 years. Jim, who was her first support and the first-hand witness of this difficult period, has not left Delphine since then. Always at her side, he was with her when King Albert II recognized Delphine as his daughter in 2020. This recognition was confirmed in October of the same year by the courts, which granted the title of Princess of Belgium to Delphine, like her brothers and her sister. She also bears the last name of members of the royal family and her children, Joséphine and Oscar, are also princess and prince of Belgium.

Princess Delphine of Saxe-Coburg is a recognized artist, who can count on Jim’s support. “I am there for all the technical constraints, so that she can truly realize herself in her art”explains Jim. And marriage? Delphine and Jim are not married. “I asked her to marry me. She told me yes but she never said when…”Jim concludes with a big smile. Maybe one day.
