Nîmes Métropole Jazz Festival: a beautiful closing with Célia Kameni and Les Égarés this weekend

Fatoumata Diawara, Ayo, José James… This year again, the Nîmes Métropole Jazz Festival will have benefited from an enticing program. End clap this weekend!

Since September 20, nearly 13 headliners have taken to the different stages of the Nîmes Métropole Jazz Festival. On the program: sounds from elsewhere, emerging talents and established artists. But this Friday October 18 and Saturday October 19 mark the last two dates of this 2024 edition which will have, once again, kept all its promises. On the menu, surprise… jazz!

Célia Kameni in “Medusa” mode

For the penultimate concert of the festival, head to the Numa Gleizes hall in Redessan, this Friday evening, for an evening that promises to be as surprising as it is captivating. On the bill, Célia Kameni, a voice that jazz aficionados know well. Revealed with the group The Amazing Keystone Big Band and nominated for the Victoires du Jazz in 2021, the French singer is this time embarking on a new musical adventure entitled Jellyfish.

“She is an exceptional singer, and this project is a real discovery”says the festival’s indefatigable artistic director Stéphane Kochoyan. As an introduction, the Javotte group, winner of the public prize at Tremplin Jazz 70 Nîmes Métropole , will open the evening. And good news: there are still places available on the festival site. Don’t delay!

The Lost at the end of the festival

This Saturday, head to the Bernard Fabre cultural space in Rodilhan for a finale which has been sold out for weeks. It must be said that Les Égarés, a Franco-Malian quartet formed in 2021, has something to make music lovers salivate. Composed of Vincent Peirani (accordion), Émile Parisien (saxophone) but also Vincent Segal (cello) and Ballaké Sissoko (kora) – who, moreover, both collaborated with the ex-Police Sting –, this unique group explores the boundaries between jazz, baroque music, African rhythms and musette traditions.

“This meeting of four instruments from different continents and different cultures gives this group a very original musical universeexplains Stéphane Kochoyan. This is why we scheduled them as closinghe continues. It’s music for everyone, whether you’re a jazz fan or not. With Les Égarés, we are in a beautiful and broad popular music.” And to top it all off, they have just been winners of the Victoires du Jazz 2024 in the “concert” category. Just that!
