At La Revue, the clash of generations on stage and behind the scenes

The satirical show is taking its spectators on a cruise this year. It takes on board many new faces, who come to blow a fresh breeze.

An hour before the performance of La Revue, Molly Hirt is busy backstage. The 27-year-old dancer is this year’s choreographer for the show. And she came to bring renewal. Tremble, Kamel Ouali. “Often, dance was secondary in Le Revue. She came to dress the sketches. Here, we wanted to highlight the talent of the dancers. I integrated ballroom dances, a little vogue, commercial dances too. The goal is to speak to everyone, especially young people.” The choreographies are omnipresent in the show.

So much for the form. Basically, this year we’re going on a cruise with the whole squad. We of course find Manuella, the emblematic cleaning lady of the show, but also Depardieu, who barely got off the boat. Quite a symbol, while the clash of generations punctuates the two hours.

Politicians are not spared. Antonio Hodgers, caricatured as a megalomaniac, explains his vision of the PAV to insects. Frédérique Perler cannot hire someone without being linked to her family tree. All matters affecting GIS are recalled. Even Fabienne Fischer goes out of her way to ask for an eraser because she has “three emails to erase”. The celebration of the people we love is entitled to a wink and even our editor-in-chief Jérémy Seydoux is caricatured on stage.

The leader is only 24 years old

All this Geneva chaos is supplemented by other concerns: pensions, health premiums and above all the generational clash. In a flirting scene at the restaurant, young people are depicted as hyper-connected and affected by air conditioning (sic), sexual assault and the Palestinian cause. On another table, two fifty-year-olds are presented as these outdated rednecks, obsessed with their car, the royal family and bad jokes.

Ironically, many young people play on stage. “It’s all I love doing. It’s hard, but it’s a great opportunity,” exclaims Gloria Grossrieder, 24. Two boxes further, the leader Virginia Sirolli, who impresses, realizes the opportunity this experience offers. “It’s my first long contract, it feels good to be on a long project. I’m not going to complain, it was my dream,” says the Genevan based in London.

Youth brings a breath of fresh air to the whole. For 2 hours and 20 minutes, the boat rocks throughout the sketches. But it doesn’t flow. On the contrary, it is playing at the Casino Théâtre until December 31.
