The last race canceled Thursday October 17, 2024 in Chantilly

Due to very bad weather conditions, between 5:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., Thursday October 17, 2024, the last race of the meeting at the Chantilly racecourse was canceled for safety reasons, both for the horses and the jockeys. This was to be contested in a straight line over 1,200 meters (Prix de l’Amante Inquiète) under the handicap formula with a strong peloton. Director of the meeting, Lucien de Colbert explained: “For half an hour, the rain has started and hasn’t stopped. We already have more than 25 mm of water. The latter accumulated, in particular, when crossing the track (portion on the grass track, used by horses to access the PSF, which is consequently the most requested and used by horses, by far). Penetrometry checks were carried out on this track passage, and a difference of 6.7 to 4.9 was noted, upstream and downstream. (Editor’s note: the most chopped portion is therefore at 6.7 and before and after, it is at 4.9), which results in too significant a change of foot for the horses, which is why the decision was taken to cancel the race. In the holes left by the horses, rainwater has accumulated and has not had time to be absorbed, which creates a breakdown and leads the horses to make mistakes, which is not secure. Galop is working to postpone this canceled race.
