Infidelities and consumer problems: Judith Bérard says everything about her relationship with Éric Lapointe

The relationship between Judith Bérard and Éric Lapointe was complex and tumultuous, marked by the rocker’s infidelities and consumption problems. But she still had a happy ending. “It was the day I left him that he became sober,” confides the singer who is preparing to launch her autobiography, Invisible.

The romance between Judith Bérard and Éric Lapointe only lasted two years, it still takes up a lot of space in this work expected on booksellers’ shelves on Wednesday. And don’t think that Judith Bérard is using her pen to settle scores with the rocker or even denigrate her old flame.

“Eric read parts of the book, his manager read it in full. I wasn’t going to release anything without his approval because my goal is not to harm him. And Eric called me to tell me that he accepts and understands everything I wrote in this book. He supports me 100% in this approach,” explains Judith Bérard in an interview with The Journal.

We also feel her tone take on tenderness every time she pronounces the rocker’s name. The two singers have not cut ties, still exchanging calls and messages sporadically, just to check in on each other.

“I still love him”

But Judith Bérard prefers not to see him. At least for now.

“I can go see him when I don’t love him anymore. But I still love him with love. I know that I am emotionally dependent and Eric, it is my drug and I must cure myself. So I can no longer allow myself to see him, I am still too fragile,” says Judith Bérard, moved.

She breaks down this dependence into different chapters in Invisiblehis romantic setbacks having in some way inspired the title of this work. As Judith Bérard admits, she regularly effaced herself to please her spouses.

This is also the reason why she put her careers as both a singer and an actress on hold, taking readers behind the scenes of musicals such as Cindy, Joan the Maid or even Starmania through the pages of his autobiography. Rather than polish her star, she let it tarnish to follow love here and there, as far as Italy.

Domestic violence

However, several of these relationships had sad, even tragic endings. Judith Bérard details in fact in Invisible two episodes of domestic violence suffered at the hands of a man she refers to by the fictitious name “Harrison”. It was finally at the end of the second – where she was kicked – that she fled and denounced her tormentor to the police authorities.

But when reading these passages, a question arises: why did Judith Bérard then agree to share her life with Éric Lapointe, he who pleaded guilty to charges of assaulting a woman?

“Most violent men say they are not guilty. But Eric, in the first moments, admitted his wrongs. He screwed up, he admitted it, and he apologized. He faced justice with honesty. So I knew he wouldn’t do it again,” explains Judith Bérard, specifying in the same breath that the rocker “never” raised his hand on her.

Excerpt fromInvisible

It’s true that there were several, from the last nights with Eric.

The last of the last was always the most beautiful.

Here, I’ll tell you this one. It made me think a lot.

October 15, 2023.

Our story was over. But his children wanted to see me. Again. And tuck them in one last time.

So, Eric invited me to come to his house and sleep at his place.

We ate together, we spent the evening together, and that evening, exceptionally, we went up to bed together. He took me in his arms, tenderly placed his big paw on my head and fell asleep, as easily and peacefully as his boys.

As gently as possible, so as not to disturb her sleep, I spent long minutes touching her skin, so soft, breathing in her scent, which I liked so much, and I stayed awake so that this moment lasted again and again. …

In the morning, as usual, Eric comes down to do his crosswords. Then he comes back to wake me up nicely with a glass of water.

— I made you some coffee.

In the kitchen, I am delighted by everyone’s good mood.

I look at the dog who goes from one to the other looking for a caress.

It feels like Christmas morning with a perfect family.
