Death of Michel Blanc: Christian Clavier speaks for the first time and shares a tender photo

The world of French cinema is still in shock from the loss of one of its greatest talents. Ten days after the sudden death of Michel Blanc, his long-time friend and playing partner Christian Clavier finally spoke publicly on social networks.

A friendship forged on school benches

Michel Blanc and Christian Clavier, two pillars of the Splendid troupe, shared much more than a simple professional relationship. Their friendship dates back to their high school years, where they met Gérard Jugnot in third grade. The latter had confided: “We sat next to each other and started the stupidity contest. We weren’t hooligans but we passed little phrases under the table to make our friends laugh. At the end of the German class, the teacher looked at us and said ‘both of you, never together again’. It was premonitory.”

A silent and moving farewell

During the funeral of Michel Blanc, organized on October 10 at the Saint-Eustache church in Paris, Christian Clavier was visibly upset, unable to hold back his tears. The ceremony,

open to the public at the request of Michel Blanc’s partner, Ramatoulaye Diop, was an opportunity for fans and loved ones to pay a final tribute to this iconic actor.

A sober but powerful tribute

This Monday, October 14, Christian Clavier finally broke the silence on his X account (formerly Twitter). He shared a black and white photo of a young Michel Blanc, wrapped in a wool coat, accompanied by a simple but poignant message: “Always with us”. This publication immediately sparked a wave of emotion among Internet users, who expressed their sadness and support in the comments.

Michel Blanc, who died on October 3 at the age of 72 following a cardiac arrest following an allergy, leaves behind a rich and varied career.

Known for his emblematic role of Jean-Claude Dusse in the saga “The Bronzed”he knew how to transcend comedy to also shine in dramatic roles and as a director. His career, spanning half a century, has been crowned with success, including four nominations for the César for best actor.

Christian Clavier’s tribute not only recalls the loss of a great actor, but also that of a dear friend. As Gérard Jugnot summed up so well after the funeral: “Laughter and tears use the same muscles. Even if it means choosing…”
