In the small room of the ecomuseum, in a nocturnal atmosphere reminiscent of the time of evenings, around thirty people, children and adults, delved into Norman legends and tales.
The evening is a link with the publication in April of La Fée des Gréves, a story transcribed by Antoine Lefrancand illustrated by Mathilde Loisel, from the novel by Paul Feval published in 1850, and with the temporary exhibition on this theme “I wanted to bring the story to life, as in the stories told, I am passionate about history, I “I wanted to do a sort of historical reconstruction,” explains Antoine Lefranc.
A reinvented story
The story begins with a story inspired by the fairy of strikesand reinvented by Antoine Lefranc “there are quite a few Norman legends around a father who does not want to marry his daughter, and who sets an impossible challenge for the knight. Usually in legends it ends badly, I decided it ended well.” The second legend concerns the washerwomen of the Lude valley. It is a cover of a legend of the Canon of Dol au 19th century“there were a few bridles, and I romanticized it […] This story of Celtic priestesses who give iron arrows to calm the waves, he took it from testimonies on the island of Sein in Brittany. The last story comes from a widespread Norman legend about goublinscalled the ‘love goblin’ or the ‘love fairy’. Goublins, cousins of Breton korrigans, live in houses, “they are not bad, just a little mischievous, they like to steal things, and they always put them back.”
Discover the heritage
Antoine Lefranc and Mathilde Loisel, Manche artists, like to take stories on a journey, and make the Normans rediscover their legends and their forgotten heritage, “we are lucky to have a terroir which is extremely rich, but we are not as good in marketing than the Bretons. Passionate about history, Antoine Lefranc held a conference in Carolles on the making of Normandy tales, on September 21, during heritage days. It also offers guided tours of the historic and legendary Lude Valley. The temporary exhibition on the fairy of strikes is visible at the Vains ecomuseum until November.
Another show will take place on October 26
In connection with the temporary exhibition, Antoine Lefranc and Mathilde Loisel offer two performances on Saturday October 26, at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., around the local history of La Fée des Grèves with legends told about the Bay.
An artistic creation by Mathilde Loisel will be produced live.
