Some video game voice actors really give of themselves. This is particularly the case of this actor who lent his voice to a Final Fantasy hero.

In the world of video games, there are heroes who are more talkative than Link (he who never lets up). And when that’s the case, well, you need voice actors to bring them to life. In the case of Final Fantasy 16, it was Yūya Uchida who stuck to it. The actor, who is now approaching 60 years old, has participated in quite a few anime (Seven Deadly Sins, Soul Eater) as well as a few video games – including Daemon X Machina, Nioh 2 and, obviously, the final part of the Square Enix saga. In FF16, Uchida even has the right to a big role since he plays Clive Rosfield, the main character of the game.

Only Clive suits me

Clive is basically the “First Shield of Rosaria,” and he is sworn to protect his little brother, Joshua. Normally, he is not supposed to have (open the big quotes) “superpowers”, this privilege being reserved for his brother who can call on Phoenix… But, after multiple adventures that we are not going to detail here , Clive is ultimately gifted the powers of Ifrit, a demonic god. During his adventure, our hero will have the opportunity to invoke it several times – notably during the fight against Titan, the “god” of Earth.

Clive’s Japanese voice actor, Yūya Uchida, collapsed while performing the “Come to Me Ifrit” scene in FF16. He had to do a few takes to get the timing right and gave all his energy which led to him collapsing in the recording booth.

A performance to die for

If we are talking about this scene in particular, it is because according to the X account Genki_JPN – often well informed – Yūya Uchida “collapsed” when recording this scene, directly in the dubbing booth. “He had to do a few takes to get the timing right and gave all his energy”comments Genki_JPN. And indeed, our dear Clive shouts when he summons Ifrit against Titan (the scene is available just above). Moreover, Uchida won an award at the Seiyu Awards (a ceremony which rewards the best voice actors in Japanese animation and video games) for his performance in Final Fantasy 16.
