Our favorites from the 29th edition of the Spanish and Portuguese film festival which takes place in Toulouse until Sunday October 13.
Nat, in her thirties, stressed, left the city to settle alone in a dilapidated house in an isolated village in Rioja, as rough as its inhabitants. Her return to nature will confront her with the reality of life in a place where everyone knows everything about the other’s life, with its advantages and its ferocity. Accompanied by a dog, full of scars like her, she will meet a neighbor, a mastiff named Andrea who will offer her a curious deal…”Un amor”, presented in preview at Cinespaña is a sensitive quest for freedom and of feminine emancipation by Isabel Coixet.
Fatima dreams of her police neighbor. His son Victor wears a uniform to seduce a guy he met on the internet. A grandmother seeks to escape her retirement home… Difficulty of human relationships, cascade of impossible relationships: presented in competition, filmed with sobriety and succinct dialogues in the chiaroscuro of the city, “Estamos no ar”, soft mosaic bitter about the desire and solitude of the Portuguese Diego Costa Amarante, recalls the cinema of Kaurismäki.
Mauricio Aznar, rising star of Spanish rock, leaves for Argentina to try to rekindle the flame of his passion for music. During his trip, he meets Don Carlos, the legend of the chacarera with whom a fraternal and artistic relationship will be born. By brilliantly renewing the art of the biopic, director Javier Macipe portrays his childhood idol and signs a film that will delight all music lovers. A road movie presented in competition, punctuated by the sense of celebration and the generosity of the Argentine people with a nod to the poet Atahualpa Yupanqui.
