VIDEO. Long-awaited return of Alsatian theater to this small village

After around fifteen years of absence, Alsatian theater returns to Rohrwiller (Bas-Rhin). Over two weekends, a volunteer troupe takes to the stage at the Maison des Travails to present a bilingual musical show, Alsatian and French, woven around the life of a village for a year. All this to make you laugh, throughout the seasons.

It all started with songs. And this is felt on stage, since around ten pieces performed live punctuate the scenes of the play. Frédérique Studer, author and director of the new association “Eb’s” in Rohrwiller, tells us: “Laurent came to see me some time ago with songs he had composed during covid. He asked me to write a text around his melodies. So the idea came to me to tell the story of a village over a year.“. Laurent (Sutter) is the mayor of the village of Rohrwiller. On stage, he sings. Life, love, “carpe diem”.

But this should not make us forget comedy, the foundation of Alsatian theater. So, Frédérique Studer imagined the story of an eco-friendly Madam Mayor, very invested, whose ways tickle the old habits of the villagers. French-speaking, she renamed her commune “Schneckebach” (ruisseau des escargots), “Préjoli”, because it’s more chic. She has a lot to do with her municipal employees, who are going on strike, and with the miss snails-beer 2024 of the twinned village in Bavaria who makes a rather resonant visit, not to mention Tony, the insolent tramp, or the young conscripts eager to bring all the forgotten country traditions up to date.

At the heart of all these little people, the innkeeper, Mr. Klein, serves pressure and listens to grievances. This central character is played by Bruno Senger, for a long time in charge of the Alsatian theater of the Cercle Aloysia in Rohrwiller, before he stopped in 2010. Due to lack of motivation and time, no doubt, on the part of the members. “It’s a great pleasure to be back on stage. We live again. I have to say I missed it!” he confides. Even if some of the lines are written in French, to open the theater to a wider audience and to be able to have non-dialectophone actors play.

Around twenty actors revive the Alsatian theater of Rohrwiller in the comedy entitled “E Johr bi uns, Mélodies et zizanie en 4 seasons” over two weekends, on the stages of the house of works. Until October 12, 2024. Information at 06 30 16 22 96.
