Already almost 40 years old and the Jazz festival in its 31st does not age. On the contrary, the programming of this new edition shows even greater openness and mixing. Here are the 5 things every good festival-goer should know before opening.

No more small musical sessions between initiates. Jazz on its 31 has long opened its doors to more current and younger forms of this music. For this year 2024, perhaps even a little more than usual.

The festival will be an opportunity to make discoveries: “The objective is to show that Jazz is a land of crossbreeding. explains the organization. “The public will have the choice between oriental jazz melodies from China, hip-hop, afro jazz or even electro jazz”.

In total, there are 48 concerts, which will take place throughout the fortnight. And among them, 34 will be free, that’s more than half. For the others, it will cost between 8 euros per place, for an evening of two concerts at the République pavilion in the courtyard of the departmental council in , and up to 26 euros for the opening and closing concerts.

Tuesday October 15, an international star opens the festival at the Altigone hall in Saint-Orens-de-Gameville. Saxophonist Steve Coleman and his five elements continue to break new ground between improvisation and legendary groove.

In closing, thea Halle aux Grains will welcome Ballaké Sissoko, Vincent Segal, Émile Parisien, Vincent Peirani with their project Les Égarés, which has just been rewarded with a Jazz 2024 victory. A musical crossover between France and Mali.

But we must also remember that 2/3 of the scheduled artists are local. Proof of the musical wealth in the department. We will cite among others David Hautrechy, great organizer of the jazz lesson, the turbulent trumpeter Daoud, or the jazz tinged with hip-hop of Galim Atias.

33 rooms are partners of the event, which, this year, will extend to no less than 36 towns in Haute-Garonne. That’s six more than in 2023.

Dozens of party rooms, a castle and even a church will vibrate to the rhythm of jazz music: “This has been the DNA of the festival since its beginnings,” recognizes the festival, “but every year we try to open new cities to jazz”. And the concept appeals.

Because jazz has no age, there is no age limit for listening to it either. The festival understood this well. For 38 years, he has been working with a very eclectic audience. Marching bands in middle school have become a staple. Every year, students can discover jazz sounds in a good mood.

Little ones are not forgotten. Concerts are available from 2 years old in two media libraries and libraries in the department. And this 2024 edition will also meet old people, with for the first time, a concert in a retirement home.

In 2023, Jazz on its 31 attracted more than 16,500 spectators. Details of the new edition can be found on the festival website.
