In “Walking Disaster: My Life Through Heaven and Hell,” the Sum 41 frontman claims that Greig Nori, who was his mentor and manager of the Canadian alternative rock group, sexually exploited and abused him for years.

Deryck Whibley claims the abuse began when he was 16 and Greig Nori was 34. He claims it continued until 2004, when a mutual friend learned what allegedly happened.

In an excerpt from the book obtained by the Los Angeles Times, the musician also claims that the Treble Charger frontman kissed him unexpectedly and “passionately” in a bathroom when he was 18, and that Greig Nori allegedly pressured him into having sex by insisting they had a “special connection.” Additionally, Deryck Whibley accused Greig Nori of psychologically and verbally abusing him while he worked as Sum 41’s manager. The manager also allegedly insisted on being credited as a songwriter on many of the group’s tracks, telling the group that the music industry would take them more seriously if they saw his name as a co-writer.

Sum 41 and Greig Nori split following the release of the album “Chuck” in 2005.

Deryck Whibley, who is now 44 years old, has still not discussed these accusations with his stage colleagues, but he claimed to have confided in his former wife Avril Lavigne when they began dating in the mid-s 2000. “It’s Abuse! He sexually abused you,” he wrote in his memoirs, quoting Avril Lavigne.

Deryck Whibley and Avril Lavigne were married from 2006 until their divorce was finalized in 2010. The Canadian rocker is now married to model Ariana Cooper.

In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Deryck Whibley said he finally felt ready to talk about the abuse he says he suffered. “You know, I don’t owe him anything. I had an internal battle, like, “Why do I want to tell him? Because I feel like I’m supposed to?” He controlled everything in my life, even the other band members. We were all under his wing. Me more, obviously. But he was someone who controlled everything,” the “Fat Lip” singer told the Los Angeles Times.

In 2024, Deryck Whibley reunited with Sum 41 and they released their eighth and final project, the pop-punk-metal double album “Heaven:x: Hell”.
