The “Lire à Bron” association has voted to dissolve, we learned in a press release. A decision taken Monday October 7 which “marque the end of the history of the Bron Book Festival and its satellite projects” can we read.

According to the writers of the press release, this decision is “the result of a reflection carried out between the professional team and the administrators who made the choice, in their soul and conscience, to put an end to this adventure”.

Apparently, “financial and organizational constraints”got the better of the passion that drove the project leaders. But, according to some sources, “the departure of the director could have precipitated things”.

A huge thank you to everyone who has contributed to the success of the festival over the years, in particular to the thousands of writers who gave us the pleasure of participating, and to the tens of thousands of readers who made this event a major event on the French literary scene.

For its part, the town hall, which actively participated in financing the show, said “surprised and sad”. She learned of this decision suddenly, when, not long ago, a meeting was held to prepare the edition for next March, “without anything to suggest such a decision”we are told from a close source. The town hall explains in a press release that “this unilateral decision, which we welcome with regret, but which we respect, marks the end of a collective history rich in 39 editions”.

We would have loved to see this wonderful celebration continue, and for this unique know-how to be passed on to new organizers.

Jérémie Bréaud, mayor (LR) of Bron

Created in 1987, this literary festival was not intended to be an author signing fair. He gave a voice to writers, invited independent booksellers, and organized readings in schools and high schools. Last year, 40,000 people came for an edition whose theme was love.
