Sum 41: Deryck Whibley claims to have been sexually abused by his ex-manager

Sum 41 singer Deryck Whibley claims he was the victim of groping, sexual and verbal abuse by the group’s first manager, Greig Nori, in an autobiography released Tuesday.

Nori’s abuse lasted several years, according to Whibley’s account in Walking Disaster: My Life Through Heaven and Hellextracts of which were published in the Los Angeles Times.

Nori was 34 and Whibley was 16 when an unhealthy dynamic developed between the two, he writes.

The first incident reportedly occurred during a rave. Nori allegedly lured the singer into the toilet to give him ecstasy and took the opportunity to kiss him passionately.

The manager later allegedly tried to convince Whibley that they were doing nothing wrong since most artists in the rock industry “are bisexual, but too scared to admit it.”

When Deryck Whibley wanted to put an end to the acts of a sexual nature, he said he was the victim of verbal and psychological abuse from Nori, the latter even trying to gang up the rest of the group against the singer.

“He was so controlling,” he said, in an interview with Los Angeles Times.

As of this writing, Greig Nori has not responded to the allegations made against him.

“It’s abuse”

Deryck Whibley says he decided only when writing his memoirs to tell the whole truth about his relationship with his ex-manager.

He had never spoken about what he experienced to anyone, with the exception of his ex-wife, the singer Avril Lavigne. “It’s abuse. He sexually abused you,” she allegedly told him.

Deryck Whibley would also have opened up with Ariane Cooper, his wife of ten years, who came to the same conclusion.

Sum 41 parted ways with Greig Nori after album tour Chuckpublished in 2005.
