The Gramat Film Festival is planning for an improved 4th edition

Tuesday, October 1, at the Atelier, the organizing team presented the results of the third edition of the Gramat Film Festival, which took place last May. About twenty people attended.

In the introduction, Marie Parre, festival coordinator, indicates: “For the second year in a row, the theme of literary adaptations for cinema was used. It made it possible to once again create synergy between municipal cultural structures: cinema, library and Micro-Folie. » She thanks all the people and partners who got involved in 2024.

Building a network

Larry Bachelier, school service manager at the town hall, continues: “This festival aims to promote cinema among Gramatois and residents of our area. The results of the 2023 edition were very encouraging with high attendance. » During the assessment in June 2023, areas for improvement were mentioned in several areas (communication, festival location, decorations, programming, logistics, catering, network, festival promotion, etc.).

Certain advances have seen the light of day for this 3rd edition: equipment/logistics, purchases of tables and benches, rental of tents. For the creation of a living space aspect: decoration by the Enchantons les vitrines association, refreshment bar with parents of students and movie meal with school catering; presence of a bookstore and a flea market. Networks have been initiated with the Gindou and Brive festivals, meetings of directors, educational partnerships, and the diversification of means of communication.

Attendance below expectations

Despite these advances and the sixteen screenings, 399 paid entries, 1,000 visitors, fifty cinema meals, thirty partners, two directors, three speakers, fifteen volunteers and a sharply increasing budget, Larry Bachelier recognizes that attendance has not been lived up to expectations.

Responding to questions from certain people regarding film programming, Andy Dessales, responsible for programming, explains: “Gramat is a municipal cinema, it is not a large multiplex. It’s very difficult to get films. We are dependent on what distributors are willing to give us. We are also restricted because of the theme we have chosen, “Literary adaptations for cinema”. The programming is designed to reach all audiences and in particular those who never come to the cinema. »

Greg Serres, technical coordinator of the festival, admits that there are certainly still improvements to be made. He closed the meeting by indicating that the 4th edition of the Gramat Film Festival will take place from May 23 to 25, 2025.
