“I hope I made a mark on the show!”: Coline, the Niçoise from The Voice Kids, looks back on her adventure

“Thank you very much, that’s . Thank you, thank you… Sorry, it’s the people in the airport, they recognize me and congratulate me!” At the end of the line, while waiting for the plane that takes her back to Nice, Coline, 16 years old since April, appreciates her growing notoriety and apologizes for having interrupted us.

The young girl from Nice , first music student at the Masséna high school, who reached the final of The Voice Kidswill ultimately not have won this season 10, won this Saturday evening on TF1 by Tim coached by Lara Fabian. But the student of the Nice Conservatory in the singing section, supported by coach Slimane, will not have been unworthy.

Astonishing adults with his interpretation.

This Saturday on the Parisian set of the show, she presented herself with several titles: notably in a duet with Yseult on “Corps” and with Slimane on “Chanter” by Florent Pagny. This was not enough to win the majority of the public’s votes, but it was still a good start for Coline, who had not completely recovered from her emotions. Her voice tired from the show the day before, the high school student looked back on her experience, while waiting to return to high school on Tuesday, where teachers and friends held her.

How did you end up participating in the show?

At the start, I was spotted, I couldn’t even say when, I must have been 9, 10 years old, I took part in the Passion chant competition on the Côte d’Azur, where the caster Bruno Berberès spotted me. I had done the casting for The Voice Kids but I didn’t follow after the first stage. I did it again, 3 years ago, until the final audition. Then this year was the deadline to be able to do it [l’âge limite pour participer au casting de The Voice Kids est 15 ans, ndlr] and it was a happy new year!

How did the adventure go?

Super intense. There were big emotional moments from start to finish. Emotionally, vocally, personally. You had to know how to manage the pace of the show and then quickly get your feet back on the ground for the return to normal life afterwards. It was sometimes complicated but hey, it was a very enriching experience.

It looks easy on TV… We imagine that there is still a lot of work?

It’s hours of rehearsal! And a lot of stress. The emotions are heightened, there is not too much room for fatigue, even if they pay close attention to us. You have to learn a lot of songs, be patient. Lots of things come into play.

Not too impressed to arrive at 16 on a TV set?

Yes, it’s clear. You have to overcome your fears but that’s good. I only want one thing in my life, and that is to surpass myself and be super proud of myself. Today, that’s who I am, I’m happy. Singing on stage has been a long time since I had the chance to do it, in Nice. There, it was different, the recording, the audience in front, the people behind you supporting so-and-so. It’s a different vibe but just as exciting and joyful.

What links were created with your coach Slimane?

Lots of links! It’s a meeting. I thank life for putting me on its path. I hope it continues. We have the same musical universe. [Samedi sur le plateau] in an interview, he said that he didn’t like people with a plan B and it’s true that I only have one plan A: to become a singer. It was his plan A too! He is an artist who inspires me a lot. Yseult too, with whom I had the chance to sing [samedi]she accompanies me every day.

Are you already thinking about what’s next?

I started writing songs. But I’m going to wait to make my plans, to come down from what just happened, and continue working. We must not forget that there are many other parameters, my family, school… I think that The Voice was a very good springboard. I made my voice known to a lot of people, I hope I made an impact on the show, at least the Slimane team!
