Patrice Leconte’s confidences on the cult film

In tribute to Michel Blanc, who died during the night from Thursday to Friday at the age of 72, TF1 broadcast this Sunday evening The Bronzed (1978). The actor and screenwriter plays Jean-Claude Dusse. A legendary character with his “misunderstandings” and his lame flirting plans.

This cult film was directed by Patrice Leconte (2.3 million admissions). The Splendid troupe (a group of seven friends, friends for life) has successfully dived into the deep end of cinema. In 2021, at the microphone of the program Jour J on RTL, the director remembered the “very cozy” side of the troupe. “Even between them.” And to continue: “The floodgates are blowing a little from all sides […] It’s true that it’s better to be on their side than opposite them, because they argue a lot. But they have a good background.”

Besides humor, The Bronzed talk about sex, which was not seen in cinema at the time. “Today, I don’t think we could do the same.”indicated Patrice Leconte. “When Popeye (played by Thierry Lhermitte) discreetly puts the girls he had as partners on a seesaw and he counts them up, it makes me laugh, but today, we can no longer write that,” he added.

The director mentioned a cheeky filmbut “we didn’t really realize it”. And to conclude: “Frankly, there was a form of carelessness on our part, of lightness, but it seemed normal to us to say these things.. It was horrible, but it felt normal to us.”
