Very soon and until early 2025the Palace of Fine Arts of Lille (North) will invite its visitors to discover a unique installation highlighting the work of one of the greatest artistic geniuses of the Renaissance. After Da Vinci at the Villeneuve-d’Ascq Science Forum until the end of August 2024, it is the turn of Raphael (1483-1520) to be the star of winter in the musée Lille. A original “expo-experience” which will highlight the museum’s collections, never shown in this way to the public.

Raphaël’s drawings in augmented reality

For some time now, the Palais des Beaux-arts in Lille has been seeking to showcase its remarkable collections through one-off events and targeted “exhibition experiences”. This allows us to focus on a few works in particular and highlight them in a carefully crafted mediation. We saw this with “Experience Goya” or more recently the exhibition dedicated to Monet, enhanced thanks to archive images and a whole dive into the context of inspiration for the creation of the works.

We will find this touch with the “Raphaël Experience” exhibition, which the elected mayor in charge of culture Marie-Pierre Bresson presents as “an absolutely exceptional event! »

And for good reason, we will discover the works of the Italian artist contemporary of Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo presented in a unique way. A hanging which will allow us to enter more into the behind the scenes of creation… In particular, you will be able to virtually enter the Signature Room of the Vatican Palace, to discover the painter’s famous frescoes!

Closer to the artist’s gesture

You probably know this name, Raphael. Perhaps you even visualize the portrait of this Italian painter, poet and architect, without knowing his career or his achievements. Juliette Singer, who is starting her first full season as director of the museum, recalls that he is “a genius of the Renaissance who revolutionized our perception of art, like Leonardo da Vinci. »

The museum has 38 (safe) drawings made by the artist. They will be shown as a whole, some of them double-sided, for the first time. “It’s a major exhibition, in which we will be as close as possible to the artist’s gesture, in which we will show what has never been shownlike a dragon, for which we retrace the creative process,” insists the representative of the Palais des Beaux-arts. All while following the artist’s journey, from Perugia to Rome via Florence.

This collection of the Lille museum is supplemented by prestigious loans granted by the Louvre Museum, the Royal Collection Trust and the National Gallery in London, or even the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum in Madrid, indicates the PBA.

Nocturnes, workshops, concerts

As with each exhibition, a mediation program enriches the installation. Two nocturnal are planned, with tasting (on the theme of Italy) and drawing of a live model. Of the participatory workshops with the public or young people on a trip will be held within the museum grounds. Work will notably be carried out with students around the figure of the “Madonna” and its transposition to Lille. Of the concertsincluding one with the Aeronef at the end of October, as part of an eco-designed highlight, is added to the agenda, supplemented by conferences and thematic meetings.

Original: an invitation to discover the exhibition will be made on a -Lille train journey, with the assistance of the SNCF. This is enough to arouse curiosity. Note that the exhibition opens on Friday October 18 at 10 a.m.!
