Saint-Céré. Prejudices, clichés and citizenship on stage at the Factory

Four performers debate with mischief and humor the affairs and controversies that run through our history. The show “Should we separate the man from the artist?” is a fascinating reminder of citizenship, to be seen on October 18 at the Usine theater in Saint-Céré.

“You’re an actor, you dream of making films, you struggle a bit, and one day, you receive an offer for the role of your dreams. The director is Roman Polanski. What do you do?” Placing current events at the heart of theater, director Étienne Gaudillère and journalist Giulia Foïs endeavor to decipher the divisive notion of the dissociation of man and artist.

On stage, a decor of film posters, book covers and journalistic columns. Four performers engage in this game of methodical deconstruction of prejudices and clichés. Between questions, testimonies, forums, reminders of historical and current facts, they debate with mischief and humor the affairs and controversies which cross our history, dislodging the “great men” from their pedestal. Antidote to caricatured judgments, “Should we separate the man from the artist?” intends to allow us to relearn how to debate and listen to others.
