“Killer Heat” will make you want to throw yourself off a cliff

Despite a five-star cast and an enticing pitch, Killer Heat (Amazon Prime) is putridly boring and completely fails to entertain us.amazon prime/watson

Despite its tempting cast and the promise of sublime Greek beaches, Killer Heatthe police thriller available since September 26 on Prime, leaves us with the feeling of having taken a bad sun on the head. Painful and useless.

The turquoise waters of Crete, a princess grieving the loss of her brother-in-law and an investigation into a suspicious death. A priori, Killer Heat was a worthy accompaniment to the pasta gratin and the glass of red on a Thursday evening.

Especially since the appetizer was promising. A Richard Madden (Robb Stark in Game of Thrones) all muscles, sweat and swollen veins, roasted to perfection under the Greek sun and in full climb of a steep cliff.

Don’t get excited too quickly. Two minutes after the launch, the hunk falls and crashes. And dies. (It will not be long before we envy his sad fate, watching the sequence of events.)

Run away if you can

This is the starting point of Killer Heatwhich follows in the footsteps of Nick Bali (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), an American private detective consumed by alcohol and regret, exiled to Greece to escape his past and his ex-wife. It is Penelope (Shailene Woodley), the sister-in-law of the deceased climber and wife of his twin brother, Leo Vardakis (still played by Richard Madden), who hires the dubious-looking American to further the investigations. Are you still following?

To add to these difficulties, Murder Island is rotten to the core, riddled with corruption and under the tight control of the wealthy Vardakis family. A certainly sales pitch, since the film has risen to the top of the audiences on Prime Video in no less than 83 countries since its release on September 26.

The sets and the casting, however, will not succeed in making us forget the hollow dialogues, a laborious scenario, devoid of interest and full of clichés. It’s banal, it’s soft, it lacks salt, dog and humor and wit. In short, everything.

Shailene Woodley, barely convincing when she cries her eyes out, makes us want to throw ourselves overboard. Richard Madden, sexy but flat, looks frozen in his role as the mean Ken with big biceps and two brain cells. Joseph Gordon-Levitt turns out to be perfectly insipid as a double-minded investigator, disillusioned by life.

An opinion shared by critics, given that Killer Heat receives a disastrous score of 19% on the specialized site Rotten Tomatoes. It is barely less worse among Internet users, with an average of 30%. If a viewer dares to blurt out that “this is one of the worst films they’ve ever seen,” we won’t go that far. Killer Heat could have at least been kind enough to leave us with a bitter taste of Greek coffee. It will rather be that of water not recommended for consumption.

His collaboration with Moncler, the famous luxury clothing brand, marks a turning point in his career where he brings his expertise in minimalist design and technology to the world of high-end ready-to-wear. A profitable bet? A little look back at an atypical journey.
