Drinking water reserves reach a “critical threshold” in Baie-des-Sables

Due to the low precipitation received this summer, the source which supplies the aqueduct network of the municipality of Baie-des-Sables reached a critical threshold in the last few days.

It currently supplies a volume of 35,000 liters per day, while citizens’ daily consumption is more than 100,000 liters.

A significant risk of shortage of drinking water is therefore present and restrictions are in force. The municipality indicates that consumption must be drastically reduced.

“Preserve drinking water from the aqueduct system for human consumption and essential needs only. Washing automobile entrances, sidewalks, patios, exterior walls of a building and vehicles, waste bins as well as watering gardens, lawns and hedges with an automatic, underground or electronic are prohibited until further notice,” she wrote on her Facebook page.

The emptying station for recreational vehicles at the Gabriel-Raymond Community Center is also closed for the season.

The municipality also asks its citizens to check their water inlets and report any water leaks observed to the municipal office.

For citizens not served by the aqueduct network who encounter water supply problems, it will be possible to have access to untreated water from the former supply of the Gabriel-Raymond Community Center.

They must go to the municipal office during opening hours to request it.
