This Friday night on WWE SmackDown, AJ Styles is back, the tag team championships are on the line in a ladder match, Michin takes on Chelsea Green in a Dumpster Matchand Miss Money In The Bank Tiffany Stratton is pitted against Naomi.

The show takes place at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee, on the eve of WWE Bad Blood 2024 which takes place this Saturday, October 5 live from the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia.

AJ Styles Returns…And Already Injured

We start this episode with Nashville native Hardy (and nothing to do with Matt and Jeff), who introduces AJ Styles for the return of Phenomenal One on SmackDown. Styles makes his babyface entrance, cheered by the crowd. He says he missed the WWE Universe, and it makes sense that he would make his return to Nashville, where it all began for him. In recent months, he has done a lot of things that he regrets, he says, but he is not here to talk about the past: he wants to talk about tonight. He knows a lot of guys don’t like him, but he has to remind them that “this is still the house that AJ Styles built.”

He is then interrupted by Carmelo Hayes, who states that he is not surprised that no one has welcomed AJ Styles for the latter’s return, after what he has been able to do in the past. Hayes congratulates himself on being the one doing it right now, before saying there’s no point reminding who he is, the one who beat Andrade three times and was active when AJ Styles wasn’t there. He’s surprised to say it, but Carmelo Hayes is a big fan of Styles. He’s sure Styles is here to say he signed a new contract, and he deserves it, but he’d rather just talk about himself. He thinks a guy like him deserves to be United States Champion, and LA Knight or Andrade don’t deserve it.

AJ Styles then picks up Carmelo Hayes to give him some advice, telling him that he’s been in the ring with LA Knight before, and that the guy is relentless. “He came to my house. We had a match at WrestleMania. And…” he says before being cut off by Carmelo Hayes who tells him that he doesn’t need his advice. Hayes doesn’t take advice from people who give up (referring to I Quit Match face à Cody Rhodes à Clash at the Castle).

AJ Styles says he deserves to have that said about him, but he asks Hayes a question: If he was that good, wouldn’t he be the United States Champion by now? Carmelo Hayes responds that if AJ Styles was truly phenomenal, he would be WWE Champion today. THE Phenomenal One then offers a match tonight, right away, to Carmelo Hayes. “No,” says Hayes.

As Carmelo Hayes was preparing to leave, United States Champion LA Knight arrived and spoke. “Let me talk to you.” He’s not surprised that Carmelo Hayes turned down the fight, but he also reminds Styles that they’re not friends. He addresses Hayes again, offering him two options: punch him in the face and enjoy his night, or face AJ Styles with a future shot at the United States title. But he warns him, when AJ Styles beats him, he will still hear everyone saying “LA-KNIGHT, YEAH”.

So it’s official, AJ Styles and Carmelo Hayes face off in the first fight of this episode of Friday Night SmackDown.

But before the fight begins, a teaser video is broadcast. We can see several monuments of the city of Detroit, Michigan, sometimes nicknamed… the Motor City. The video ends with the message “Coming soon”.

The second fight of the evening is a Dumspter Match between Chelsea Green and Michin. No disqualification, no pinfall, no submission: the only way to win is by placing your opponent inside the dumpster located next to the ring and closing it.

Michigan batsman Chelsea Green after a Powerbomb through a table into the dumpster. Piper Niven intervened during the match to try to help Chelsea Green, but it didn’t pay off.

AJ Styles is seen by a doctor to treat his left ankle.

Backstage, Naomi is with tag team champions Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill who are cheering her on for her match tonight and telling her she can join them as hosts of WWE Bad Blood tomorrow night. Bayley then arrives and Belair and Cargill leave. She says she’s going to beat Nia Jax tomorrow at Bad Blood and that Naomi will be the first to have a title match when she gets her belt back.

We learn that American DJ Metro Boomin will be at the State Farm Arena tomorrow night for Bad Blood.

Bayley is ready for Bad Blood

Bayley makes her entrance and makes her way into the ring. In 24 hours, she will have the opportunity to become champion again and she doesn’t want to waste time: she calls Nia Jax to join her immediately. The latter then comes with Tiffany Stratton. “Bayley, you have something to say. Tell me to my face. » said Nia Jax. Bayley criticizes the champion for not being aware of the title symbol on her shoulder; that she doesn’t realize what that means for many wrestlers, especially her. Bayley grew up watching wrestlers like Molly Holly, Victoria, Beth Phenix, Natalya, Trish [Stratus] or Lita wearing that belt and giving the impression that they were not human, but that they were more than that. But that’s not the case for Nia Jax, she says. Bayley admits, however, that Nia Jax has a dominant reign, that she is one of the most dominant champions in WWE history. But two people can take her title: her, by beating her tomorrow at Bad Blood, but also her friend Tiffany Stratton, namely Miss Money In The Bank. It’s not because she is strong enough, but it is only thanks to her briefcase that Tiffany Stratton could become champion. And Bayley warns Jax: when Stratton gets tired of her, she won’t hesitate to cash in her briefcase.

Tiffany Stratton interrupts. “Are you saying I’m not strong enough?” That the only reason I would be able to beat Nia is because of this briefcase? I don’t need this briefcase to beat Nia. she said to Bayley, leaving Nia Jax perplexed. ” Excuse me ? » intervenes the champion. But Tiffany Stratton apologizes, and says she only said that because Bayley pissed her off. She adds that Bayley should kneel before the queen. Bayley responds that while she recognizes Nia Jax’s dominance, she has no respect for Tiffany Stratton. “I would rather kneel to a queen than sponsor a stupid c****.” » she said before a fight broke out. Bayley gets the upper hand and leaves Nia Jax on the ground in the ring before leaving. Tiffany Stratton seems hesitant to cash in her briefcase but that ultimately won’t be the case.

Naomi then makes her entrance for the following match. She faces Tiffany Stratton.

Naomi beat Tiffany Stratton by fallen with a crucifix pin.

The Bloodline still at the top of the tag team division

Behind the scenes, we find the Bloodline. Jacob Fatu threatens everyone: #DIY, the Street Profits, Cody Rhodes, Roman Reigns. He assures: all will respect and recognize the Real Tribal ChiefSolo. “Aknowledge me” simply adds Solo Sikoa, before Tama Tonga and Tanga Loa head to the ring to defend the WWE Tag Team Championships against #DIY and the Street Profits in a Triple Threat Ladder Match. This is the first ladder match to take place on SmackDown in five years, Michael Cole informs us.

But before the fight, we find Nia Jax and Tiffany Stratton backstage. The champion is not happy. She has the impression that Tiffany Stratton is preparing her cash-in. She should focus on Liv Morgan’s match tomorrow because it’s a cash-in she could survive says Nia Jax, adding that she should promise her that she will never betray her. Stratton responds that Nia Jax is his queen, and she obviously won’t betray her. Obviously.

Tama Tonga and Tanga Loa beat #DIY and the Street Profits to retain their titles. Tanga Loa took down the belts hanging above the ring.

The episode therefore ends with the victory of the members of the Bloodline, joined by Solo Sikoa and Jacob Fatu on the entrance ramp to accompany them in the celebration.
