why beige has become has-been

After “millennial grey”, it is now “sad beige” which is mocked by the new generation! Young people simply find this color dull and without personality. Is the reign of completely neutral style coming to an end? Whatever the case, in the wake of the maximalism trend, it is now bright colors and bold palettes that dominate decorative collections!

Beige, a timeless neutral in decor?

We love it at home (and on our clothes), and for good reason: beige adapts to all styles and goes with all shades! This rather warm neutral has survived the ages without ever going out of fashion. Its shade palette runs from sand to taupe, and seems ideal for creating a soft, harmonious, soothing atmosphere… We even talk about the “new white”, but with a touch of ideal warmth in minimalist, Scandinavian or bohemian-chic interiors!

And since gray is in full decline, beige has replaced it as that neutral decor par excellence…so much so that a decorative style was even born from this obsession; the “Vanilla Girl” aesthetic. This style, which invaded the feeds in winter 2023, consists roughly of an overdose of beige (on walls, furniture, accessories) to obtain a refined and organic picture with a very smooth appearance. The shades nude/beige had even been crowned “color of the year 2023” by the Pinterest site. But as we enter 2025, this trend begins seriously running out of steam

“Sad Beige” in decoration, now out of date!

On TikTok, we see more and more young people transform their interior into getting rid of beige to adorn their walls and furniture in bold colors. According to them, having fun with the color wheel in decoration brings much more warmth and personality that this excessive neutrality, copied and recopied many times, and now described with disdain from “sad beige” (“sad beige”).

Moreover, the decorating trends of 2024 (and those announced for 2025) move in the direction of more personalization and color: maximalism, presumably, is here to stay! And we must admit, it offers us much more of creative freedom that a 100% neutral interior…
