“If my son asks questions, I will be as honest as possible. And I will not take my son to prison to meet his grandfather,” she promises in an excerpt from her upcoming documentary entitled R. Kelly’s Karma : A Daughter’s Journey (R. Kelly’s Karma: A Girl’s Journey).

The mom-to-be recalled her childhood with R. Kelly and said he “was everything to me,” but they haven’t been close since he was convicted of racketeering and sex trafficking in September 2021.

“For a long time, I didn’t even want to believe it had happened. No one wants to be the child of a father who hurts women and children,” she said of the singer, who is serving a thirty-year sentence at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Chicago.

In addition to his thirty-year prison sentence, in February 2023, the Grammy Award winner was sentenced to an additional twenty years in prison, nineteen of which will be served concurrently with his sentence in New York. He was convicted of six counts of child sex crimes – including producing child pornography and enticing a minor to engage in sexual activity.

Joanne Kelly’s documentary also includes appearances from her siblings, Jaah Kelly and Robert Kelly Jr.
