257 x 390.5 cm. Here are the dimensions of this masterful masterpiece by Franz Gertsch, one of the most important Swiss artists of the 20th century.e century. However, not only are the works of Gertsch put up for auction extremely rare, but the self-portraits are even more rare. Moreover, there is only one in the artist’s authorized work. “Selbstbildnis” will be on sale at Christie’s in London on October 9. This oil on canvas promises records. At this stage, its estimate is between 2,100,000 and 3 million pounds. Let us remember here that Franz Gertsch produced “only” 63 major paintings between 1969 and 2005, his practice is so meticulous. It was in fact at the end of the 1960s that he began to use photos enlarged by slide projection as the basis for the format of his paintings.
