The Lord of the Rings series continues to generate a lot of ink even though season 2 is coming to an end. One scene in particular from episode 7 seems to make fans of the saga as well as one of the actors involved uncomfortable. He saw things differently for his character according to his latest statements.

The Kiss of Discord

Episode 7 of season 2 of Rings of Power did not only make people happy, according to the feedback from certain fans who have been expressing their disappointment for several days on social networks regarding the great battle leading to the fall of the Eregion. Another scene greatly displeased spectators who believe that it goes against the lore. During the incriminated sequence, Elrond played by Robert Aramayo goes to Adar’s camp for talks. Following the failure of the negotiations, the elf leaves the tent of the leader of the Uruks not without first kissing Galadriel who is a prisoner.

Far from being a romantic kiss, this act is in reality a roundabout way for Elrond to give his compatriot a brooch which will allow her to escape some time later. This sequence crystallizes the discontent of those experts in Middle-earth who point out incestuous behavior. Indeed, Elrond is the stepson of Galadriel in the Lord of the Rings universe.the latter being married to the daughter of the elven warrior Celebrían. However, she does not seem to exist in the Rings of Power series, just like Galadriel’s husband Celeborn.

Elrond’s reaction

The actor who plays Elrond on screen in The Rings of Power has returned to this controversial decision taken by the screenwriters. If at first he was against this kiss, he finally understood what it really meant in this Heroic-Fantasy universe. At the microphone of NerdistRobert Aramayo declared:

Oh, one hundred percent. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. But I think this act is perceived slightly differently in this world. When we see a kiss on the street, we immediately draw conclusions about what is happening. But in the elven world, I think it’s slightly different. And Miv (Morfydd Clark) talked a lot about that, about how she saw things differently and other things. I was honestly against it for a while. But I think it’s good when we have those moments, because we talk about it and we flesh out the world a little bit, when we have those conversations. – Robert Aramayo (Elrond – The Rings of Power)
