Terje Sinding wins SGDL/Ministry of Culture Grand Prize for translation work 2024. He is rewarded for his work as a translator from Danish, Norwegian and Swedish into French.
Created in 2019 to celebrate an emeritus literary translator each year, it wants to promote this profession, which contributes to promoting the circulation of works and ideas in the world, and to developing the French-speaking world.
Living in France for over 50 years now, Terje Sinding greatly contributed to making Scandinavian literature and theater known in France. Among his multitude of translated authors, he counts Jon Fosse, the 2023 Nobel Prize in Literature.
“The French-speaking wealth of translation”
Several of his theatrical translations have been staged and he has participated in numerous revues. In 2011, he was made a Knight of the Royal Norwegian Order of Merit by the King Harald V from Norway in 2011 and received the European Literature Prize Translation Grant in 2014. Terje Sinding was also editorial secretary at the Comédie-Française from 1983 to 1993.

The president of the SGDL, Christophe Hardyadded: “The situation of the artist-author-translator confronted with a double house. I find that this illuminates the mysterious beauty of the translator’s profession. »
