Moved, Jean-Pierre Foucault recalls the assassination of his father

Jean-Pierre Foucault went through a tragic ordeal in his youth. While his family lived in , his father regularly went on business trips. One of these trips to Algeria would change the life of the future host. The latter would never see his father alive again.

“On February 19, 1962, my father left for Algeria to check the accounts. And on February 22, he was shot in the street with a bullet in the back and neck,” Jean-Pierre Foucault confided with palpable emotion to Frédéric Lopez, during his recent appearance in “Un Dimanche à la campaign”. That day, the teenager saw his life turned upside down. “I was told he had an accident (…) He never came back. “That’s how at 14, suddenly, all at once, I became an adult,” he continued.

The assassination of his father, a fruit and vegetable exporter, remains an enigma. In the troubled context of the end of the Algerian War, all hypotheses could have been considered. However, the trail of a political assassination has never been considered credible. The bereaved son received a ward card of the Nation, with a special mention: “Death for ” was crossed out. “My father died for nothing,” declared Jean-Pierre Foucault, expressing still strong anger.

A few months before this interview, the host had mentioned in “ Match” his access to the archives relating to the murder of his father. Unfortunately, these did not solve the mystery. “I know it was someone who came knowingly to kill him. I don’t know why,” he then confided. Foucault, wishing to put an end to any speculation, clarified that his father “was not part of the OAS (Editor’s note: Organization of the secret army), he was neither on one side nor the other.
