Sofia El Khyari, godmother of the animated film month

From October 1, 2024, the director and visual artist Sofia El Khyari is the godmother of the Animated Film Month of the French Institute of Morocco and begins a tour, until October 11, in the different sites of the IFM. On screen, four of his short films: “The Shadow of Butterflies”, “The Porous Body”, “Ayam” and “The Grain of Your Skin”. The public thus (re)discovers the poetic and poignant universe of this filmmaker who is one of the revelations of the International Animation Film Festival (FICAM) and a pioneer in the sector in Morocco. A feminist at heart, Sofia El Khyari puts women at the forefront and uses a different graphic technique for each of her films: from ink to watercolor through cut-out paper or photography. Music also has its importance in his works. Talented, Sofia El Khyari has established herself in this very masculine environment. Very quickly, she gained a place of choice in international animated cinema thanks to her short films, which received awards and were widely distributed in more than 150 prestigious festivals around the world.
