Rabanne imagines the most expensive bag in the world with Arthus Bertrand

The Rabanne house unveiled the “most expensive bag in the world” during its fashion show on Wednesday. A creation in 18-carat gold imagined with jeweler Arthus Bertrand.

A tribute to “the most expensive dress in the world”

It took more than 300 hours of work to give birth to this already iconic bag. Designed in collaboration with the French jewelry and medal house Arthus Bertrandthe accessory is a reinterpretation of the famous Rabanne medallion bag. An exclusive creation composed of 157 Arthus Bertrand Pluie d’Etoiles medals, all in 18-carat gold.

Displayed at the price of 250 000 eurosit is designated as “the most expensive bag in the world”. It is actually a tribute to the so-called “most expensive dress in the world”: a 1968 model created by Paco Rabanne for Françoise Hardy made of gold and diamond tiles.

Arriving at the head of artistic direction at Maison Rabanne in 2013, Julien Dossena wanted to highlight the know-how of the workshops for this spring-summer 2025 season. In addition to this version, two other bags 1969 complete the collection: one blown glass imagined with Venini and a second white ceramic designed in collaboration with Astier de Villatte. Exclusive pieces which were officially presented on the catwalk of the Rabanne fashion show, this Wednesday, September 25.

“I am always interested in exploring new materials and new techniques, it comes from my personal curiosity but also from the fact that it’s inherent in the DNA of the house, explains designer Julien Dossena. Craftsmanship is at the heart of everything we do and for this artisanal edition of the 1969 bags, I wanted to work with the best in their category.”

Because this is how it can justify its prices, luxury does everything it can to protect and promote excellent craftsmanship. Like LVMH, which launched its Métiers d’Art network in 2015, which not only allows it to defend craftsmanship while ensuring the traceability of its production.
