“We are going to have a very big party this evening and we will share good times with our Moroccan friends,” said Nicolas Reyes, singer of the Gipsy Kings, in a statement to the press, a few hours before the group’s concert.
“We are very happy to take part in the Tanjazz festival this year,” he continued, describing his participation in a festival in Morocco as a “dream come true”.
In this sense, he spoke of his admiration for Morocco and its cultural diversity, saying he was always “very happy” to visit the country and to go on stage in front of the Moroccan public.
“In the rumba style, the group Gipsy Kings had the idea of always making its own music,” explained the famous singer, promising the Tanjazz audience an exceptional performance with the group’s best-known songs, including “Bamboléo” or even “Djobi Djoba”.
The Gipsy Kings, icons of rumba flamenca, have enchanted the world with their unique fusion of flamenco, pop and Catalan rumba, becoming global ambassadors of rhythm and joy.
The group is one of the headliners of this edition of Tanjazz, which will continue until September 22 at the Palace of Italian Institutions in Tangier, with several old-school jazz and swing concerts.
At the same time, a public stage will welcome big names from the Moroccan scene, such as Hamid El Kasri, in addition to young talents like Jubantouja and Saad Tiouly. Festival regulars like Gnawa Express and Hoba Hoba Spirit will also be there, offering a unique blend of tradition and modernity.
The festival also takes place in the streets of the city of the Strait, with a brass band crossing the streets of Tangier, from the Kasbah to the Grand Socco, and which will continue to enliven the city throughout the festival.
