Violin making workshop: a well-timed start to the school year

It wasn’t just the start of the school year last August, music schools were also opening their doors again. Between July and September, Friborg luthier Carolina Kubicek-Jallais has her work cut out for her. In fact, the latter is facing an increase in requests from people wishing to rent, tune or repair their instrument.

Furthermore, she is responsible for meeting each customer to return a violin or guitar. The manager of the “Le Counterpoint” workshop therefore finds herself in great demand, even to the point of having to rescue damaged instruments during the week at late hours.

A professional musician, Justine, regularly goes to the violin-making workshop located in the city center of Fribourg. She explains that each meeting with Carolina is unique. “It’s a very intimate moment, because entrusting your instrument to someone else is delicate,” she says. “The luthier’s hands are made of gold because he is the one who will choose the material or carry out small finishing touches. In the end, for me, it is very interesting to see the settings on the instrument,” continues the music lover .

After 20 years of practice, Carolina has had her own workshop for a year next to St-Nicolas Cathedral and she is not ready to stop making a living from her passion.
