Self-deprecation on all levels
Halfway between film noir and comedy, Wolfs thus plays on the complicity of the two stars to unfold its story, even when their characters hate each other. In the great tradition of buddy moviethey will bicker with barbs, swearing and other baseness for a good part of the film, the other part being devoted to understanding how they got there. And if the dialogues are spicy, the story is a little too wise (in addition to only starting after half an hour of film).
But the main thing is elsewhere, it is in the self-mockery, in the gap between the anonymity of their characters and their celebrities or in the fact that they are now seniors: George Clooney is 63 years old, Brad Pitt is 60 years old . It’s a little light to make it a great comedy, it’s enough to have a good time.
