Last January, Anick Lemay launched a GoFundMe crowdfunding campaign for her restaurant Mam’zelle Pub, in Magog, which she owns with her sister and her mother. Despite the controversy and negative comments from some people, Anick says she is satisfied with how things have turned out following this initiative. His establishment is also celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. “The GoFundMe campaign, which was for two weeks, wanted to sound the alarm and ask if there were people who wanted to come and work for us. The objective has been achieved. We raised almost $9,000, but the goal was not to raise money. We could never have reached $100,000. After the first week of the campaign, the restaurant was full of Magog residents who had heard our cry of alarm and who had come over, saying to themselves that it had been a long time since they had come to see us. It costs more and more to go to restaurants, so the traffic is no longer the same as before, but we had a great summer and we found employees,” she told us when we crossed paths with her.
The actress is currently filming for the film Villeneuve: The Rise of a Legend, by director Yan Lanouette Turgeon, which is scheduled for release in 2025. She plays Georgette, the mother of Gilles Villeneuve. “I learned a lot of business. In particular, I didn’t know that Gilles started out doing lots of snowmobile racing. We are lucky to have the collaboration of Mélanie, Gilles’ daughter and Jacques’ sister. She came to the set and lent us some of her father’s classic cars.” Patrice Robitaille plays Gilles’ father who is played by Rémi Goulet. Furthermore, Simone, Anick’s daughter, has just entered theater at Cégep de Saint-Laurent. “She did her math strong and her science in high school. She is also very talented in sports and drama. Theater has always interested her, so she’s going to see if she really likes it.”
