The project of a series adapted from Legally Blonde is coming to fruition. Reese Witherspoon, star of the original films and co-producer of this future program, announces the opening of the casting to find the main actress.
“We’re starting the casting process,” she says in a video posted to Instagram. “It’s an open casting call to play young Elle Woods, when she was in high school.”
The actress provides a link in her Instagram bio for candidates to apply. “I can’t wait to meet all the Elle Woods in the world.”

Released in 2001, Legally Blonde starred Reese Witherspoon as Elle Woods, a scatterbrained Californian who enrolls in law school at Harvard. The cult comedy was followed by a sequel, The Blonde Strikes Backin 2003.
The plot of this new series, announced last May, will take place before that of the feature films to follow the character in his high school years.
“Fans will discover how Elle Woods navigated adolescence, with her unique personality and her ingenuity,” Reese Witherspoon told Deadline at the time.
Reese Witherspoon will serve as co-executive producer under her production company, Hello Sunshine, alongside Prime Video. The duo is preparing another spinoff series based on the universe of Legally Blondeaccording to the same media. It will be written by Josch Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, the duo behind Newport Beach And Gossip Girl.
In 2020, Reese Witherspoon announced that a third film was in the works for May 2022. It ultimately never saw the light of day.
