The ban on medical tests at the MUHC for patients in 450 is unacceptable, complains Christian Dubé

It is unacceptable that the McGill University Health Centre no longer accepts patients who live in the 450 and who wish to receive medical tests there, says the Minister of Health.

“A patient can be treated wherever he wants,” he said Thursday morning on Qub radio.

The newspaper revealed this morning that several medical tests, such as ultrasounds, blood tests and MRIs, are no longer accessible to patients who live in the 450 at the McGill University Health Centre. A “discriminatory” decision denounced by doctors.

The situation at CUSUM is “not at all” acceptable, he stressed.

“I spoke to the deputy minister who will be in charge of talking with Santé Québec. One of the advantages of Santé Québec was to say that we will stop working in silos. That we will look at the patient who wants to be served at the place that is most convenient for them.”

The minister points out that the Quebec Health Act stipulates that a patient who resides in Quebec can be treated at the location of his or her choice.

“So, we are going to correct it, we are going to talk to the manager this morning and to all the managers to ensure that this practice (…) is unacceptable. And we are going to ensure that it works this way with the arrival of Santé Québec,” he noted.
