A father from La Tuque threatened with expulsion

A father from La Tuque originally from Cameroon could face deportation, even though he is married to a Quebec woman and has two jobs.

Jean Emmanuel’s days on Canadian soil are once again numbered, as he has been summoned for the second time to be expelled from the country on October 4. He does not know where he will go.

His immigration consultant had asked for a stay of execution, the time to have a response for the sponsorship application which is in progress and which has exceeded the deadline according to her. This application was refused and in less than two weeks, unless there is a turnaround, he will have to leave behind his wife and his 2 and a half year old daughter.

This story touches an entire community in La Tuque. Friends, relatives, the mayor’s office… About ten people wrote a letter of support to show their support in his efforts to stay here. Faced with this decision, one of his employers does not understand the reasons at all.

“It’s a human and economic tragedy,” adds the owner of Hôtels Marineau, Donald Desrochers.

Jean Emmanuel worked for him for a few years before finding another job in an organization that helps people with disabilities. He still decided to stay there on weekends to make ends meet. Dedicated employees like him aren’t exactly a crowd-pleaser.

“If it weren’t for foreign workers, some of my establishments would be closed,” he says.

A request for information was made by TVA to the Ministry of Immigration in order to understand why the father will have to leave before his file has been fully processed, but the latter had still not responded at the time of writing.
