Jean-Luc Mongrain talks about his wife’s illness to “Pour une fois”

This Saturday, Jean-Luc Mongrain was on the set of the talk show Pour une fois, this show with a unique concept, where the guests are in fact those who ask the questions to the headliner of the evening.

Having become rarer on television in recent years, we were curious to discover the confidences of the former host of My grain of saltAlthough he is generally discreet about his private life, Jean-Luc has nevertheless agreed to talk to Luc Senay about a darker part of his life, which occurred around thirty years ago.

It was that shortly after joining his life with his partner Lynda, she was diagnosed with cancer. Navigating the unknown with a wife who was then devastated by the disease, the popularizer stood firmly by her side, supporting her unwaveringly. He confides:

Being able to love someone means being able to forget yourself. And without necessarily seeking your own satisfaction. I believe in that, sharing. Because there is an added value in being with someone else, in my opinion. You have to find it, you have to work at it, it’s not magic. There is a richness, most certainly! […] When your wife, whom you have just met, is 35 years old, and she gets cancer of which you do not know the outcome and the doctors wonder what it is, and she goes a year without eating […]that you are in radiotherapy and you never know how it will end, that you are a blended family and that you have a little boy, she has a little girl and the four of us live together.

There is no view. You wait for things to happen and you pray that it works. It worked, here we are 35 years later, she has absolutely nothing, there has been no relapse, nothing. I discovered another woman. I discovered what she was and that I did not suspect an incredible force, a taste for life, but for love, not for her, to survive. »

It was certainly very touching to see such an influential and firm man in his convictions display a softer side of his personality, showing all the love that lives within him.

We talk too little about For oncethis unique talk show that always knows how to extract great confidences from famous artists. Next week, it will be up to Véronique Cloutier to answer questions from the various guests who will arrive on the set.
